MFC Judge Continues Unbeaten Run with Win and Draw

It wasn't perfect, but it was enough to stretch MFC Judge's unbeaten run to eight matches and keep the club atop the table - and in control of their own destiny - with just two matches left in the Bronze League campaign.

The first of the two matches came on Friday afternoon, when Brussels MFC made the three-hour drive north to the Deventer Metastadium for the clubs' second clash of the season.

The first 15 minutes of the match got off to a poor start for the home-side, as Brussels had three different chances that nearly went in.  The first forced a save from keeper Matko Bralić, the second forced a clearance from Vicente Pardo, and the third forced a last-second block from Øystein Ødegaard,

After surving the initial flurry, however, things turned for the home side.  After slicing through the defense like he has done all campaign, ElmarJacobs' 19th minute shot went just wide.  A similar effort just two minutes later would not go wide, however, but would instead go straight into the back of the net - giving the home side a 1-0 lead and sending the DG Gavelers into raptures.

"I couldn't have scored without Jamie's amazing pass" Jacobs said after the match.  "He doesn't get to play every match, but when he does he is always ready.  I am happy to have him on our team - even if his Australian accent gets a little annoying at times."

Jacobs had several other chances throughout the match - as did several of his teammates - but was unable to convert.  His 21st minute strike was the difference, giving MFC Judge a vital three points in their quest to win the title in their inagural capaign.

For Saturday afternoon's match MFC Judge was at home against division rival Olympique SG.  Despite holding 55% of the possession, MFC Judge was unable to do much in front of the goal.  The side mustered only six shots throughout the match, putting only two on target the entire 90 minutes.  As satisfying as Friday's road win was, this was just as frustrating - with the match ending in a 0-0 draw.

Despite the frustration felt throughout the match, manager Pieter van der Linden chose to strike an optimistic tone when he walked up to the podium in the Estelle Estelle Press Room after the match -

"Would we have liked to win today?" van der Linden asked rhetorically after the match.  "Sure.  But we got a point.  Our destiny is in our hands - everything we've worked for, everything we've been aiming for....it's all within our grasp.  We just have to do what we know we can do these last two matches and we will come away with the title."

Bailiff von Bailiff and the rest of the DG Gavelers are sure hoping that MFC Judge can pull it off.  Rumor has it that von Bailiff, in a pre-season drunken stupor, was so confident that MFC Judge would emerge champions that he wagered his firstborn child.  Here's to hoping that INTERPOL won't have to get involved.- and that MFC Judge is left holding the trophy when all is said and done.
