It was a tighter-than-anticipated affair on Friday afternoon in Deventer, but MFC Judge managed to come out on top in their Bronze League battle against Olympique SG with goals from Elmar Jacobs and Isidro Sarmiento powering the home side to a 2-1 victory.
The first few minutes of the match did not go as manager Pieter van der Linden would have liked, however, as the visitors forced speedy defender Vanderlei Felix into an acrobatic clearance in the fifth minute. Things turned a few minutes later, however, as Isidro Sarmiento notched the first goal - off a beautiful pass from his stirke partner Elmar Jacobs - to give MFC Judge the lead.
The home fans would not have to wait much longer for another goal. Less than a quarter hour after Sarmiento put MFC Judge in front, Jacobs doubled MFC Judge's lead. Taking a pass from Guy Sanderson straight down the middle of the pitch, Jacobs lobbed a cheeky shot over the opposition keeper to double MFC Judge's lead and continue the club's domination.
"Guy's my boy, you know" Jacobs said after the match. "That was an amazing ball, right to my feet. To play with players like him is every striker's dream."
MFC Judge's two-goal lead did not last long, however, as Friedhelm Benz pulled one back for the visitors in the 40th minute. After a stalemate of a second-half - where MFC Judge was unable to convert any of their other chances - the boys from Deventer walked out of the metastadium walked out victorious.
On the way out of the stadium, Bailiff von Bailiff could be heard yelling "Koek! Koek for everyone!" Things would take a tragic turn, however, as von Bailiff consumed so much of Deventer's famous treat that he would have to spend the night in the local hospital - though he is expected to be recovered in time for the club's next match. For a victory though, getting yourself sick with koek is worth it.
