Slide Continues, as MFC Judge Falls to Bottom of Group

Just when DG Gavelers thought the preseason tournament couldn't get any worse, they did.  Monday morning saw MFC Judge drop its third match in a row, this time by a score of 2-0 to Lagos MFC.  The loss drops MFC Judge to the bottom run of the group with one match to go.  Sadly, it also eliminates any chance of the club advancing out of the group stage.

Things started off poorly for MFC Judge, with Italian striker Aniello Torrisi getting on the board in the 7th minute.  Things were relatively calm for the rest of the half, with MFC Judge going into the locker room down 1-0.  Just five minutes after the restart, however, Torrisi woudl get on the board again - sending a powerful finish into the back of the net to double Lagos' lead.  The 2-0 scoreline is how things would end, leaving the DG Gavelers crying and the whole of Deventer in emotional shambles.  A group staget that started with such promise just days earllier had turned completely in the other direction.

As with previous matches, MFC Judge outshot their oppoents - 11 to 9 - but were unable to convert a single attempt.  More concerning in today's match was how overwhelmingly MFC lost the possession battle - holding the ball for only 42% of the match to Lagos' 58%.

"We knew it would be tough, being a new club.  We just expected to be better.  We will write the ship, however, and make everyone proud when league play begins" said tournament captain Isidro Sarmiento.  "Please forgive us as we go through these growing pains and trust the process.  We know Pieter and Kwame have a project in mind.  We believe in it."

With the club dropping three in a row, rumors abound that ownership has brought in a mysterious MFL consultant named "creepyjeremy."  Whether or not his sage advice produces different results, however, is still up in the air.
